Book Reviews & Thoughts |
Goodreads Synopsis: A beautiful and distinguished family. A private island. A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy. A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive. A revolution. An accident. A secret. Lies upon lies. True love. The truth. We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from New York Times bestselling author, National Book Award finalist, and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart. Read it. And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16143347-we-were-liars This was a book chosen for one of the book clubs I am in and is not a book I would have chosen for myself. There was definitely something lacking from the story in my opinion. Many characters that I wished I could know more about and events that were left unclear. I enjoyed the romance and friendship present in the story, and the plot twist caught me off guard, but other aspects were cringeworthy. The overly dramatized emotions and reactions were somewhat confusing and ultimately annoying. The inclusion of the fairy tale perspective was unique and interesting at first, but as more and more occured I felt less would have been more. Overall it was much more 'YA' than I anticipated from reading the synopsis. 1 Star!
