Goodreads Synopsis: A mystery about a group of former classmates who reunite to mark the tenth anniversary of a tragic accident—only to have one of the survivors disappear, casting fear and suspicion on the original tragedy. Seven hours in the past. Seven days in the present. Seven survivors remaining. Who would you save? A decade ago, two vans filled with high school seniors on a school service trip crashed into a Tennessee ravine—a tragedy that claimed the lives of multiple classmates and teachers. The nine students who managed to escape the river that night were irrevocably changed. A year later, after one of the survivors dies by suicide on the anniversary of the crash, the rest of them make a pact: to come together each year to commemorate that terrible night. To keep one another safe. To hold one another accountable. Or both. Their annual meeting place, a house on the Outer Banks, has long been a refuge. But by the tenth anniversary, Cassidy Bent has worked to distance herself from the tragedy, and from the other survivors. She’s changed her mobile number. She’s blocked the others’ email addresses. This year, she is determined to finally break ties once and for all. But on the day of the reunion, she receives a text with an obituary attached: another survivor is gone. Now they are seven—and Cassidy finds herself hurling back toward the group, wild with grief—and suspicion. Almost immediately, something feels off this year. Cassidy is the first to notice when Amaya, annual organizer, slips away, overwhelmed. This wouldn’t raise alarm except for the impending storm. Suddenly, they’re facing the threat of closed roads and surging waters…again. Then Amaya stops responding to her phone. After all they’ve been through, she wouldn’t willfully make them worry. Would she? And—as they promised long ago—each survivor will do whatever he or she can do to save one another. Won’t they? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61273351-the-only-survivors Thank you to Megan Miranda, Simon & Schuster Canada, and NetGalley for providing me with an ebook copy of The Only Survivors for me to read and review. What a wild story of trauma, loss, strength, and overcoming challenges. The time jumps between now and then to give us just a little bit more information about the tragic accident that they all "survived" was well done, especially how the past timeline worked backwards in time through the aftermath of the accident. There was a large number of characters to keep track of which I found difficult especially since a number of them didn't get a huge amount of detail provided about them/their personalities. It was a very slow burn to start, which I don't usually mind but this one was a bit too slow in my opinion and it took a very long time to get to anything exciting happening. There were quite a few twists and turns, some that I saw coming and some that I didn't. Overall the twists were definitely a success in this book, but I wish that it had been a bit faster paced to start. 3 Stars!

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth | Goodreads Thank you to Sally Hepworth, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for providing me with an ebook copy of The Soulmate for me to read and review. This is the first book by Hepworth that I've read and wow did I pick a great story to start! The unique family dynamics, mystery, intrigue and suspense were all there in spades in this book. I was constantly questioning whether or not I was seeing the full picture and wondering who could actually be trusted. This story was masterfully written with twists and turns and withheld details, right down to the final pages. The character growth shown by the female main character was excellent! I will definitely be reading more books by Hepworth. 4 Stars! Goodreads Synopsis: He was my boyfriend’s best friend—and the bane of my existence. I wanted to hate Luke Taylor. I did hate him. I just never hated him enough. Now, a decade later, tragedy has brought us back to the place where it all happened—my best times, and my worst. Our lives have changed, but that pull between us is just as strong as ever. Only this time, it’s more dangerous too. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/63898425-the-summer-we-fell Thank you to Elizabeth O'Roark and Literally Yours PR for providing me with an advanced ebook copy of The Summer We Fell for me to read and review. What an intense tidal wave of emotions! (Pun intended) This book sucked me in from the very first chapter and I couldn't read fast enough! I was totally sucked in and just had to find out what would happen next. The little clues and pieces of the puzzle that O'Roark wove into the story along the way were masterfully done and the slow reveal of each character's personality was done with superb timing. The multiple timelines was done beautifully and was very easy to follow and interweave the events and emotions of the past and present. This story is simultaneously powerful, tearful, heartbreaking, romantic, enraging and uplifting. There are so many shocking moments revealing each characters personal truth that I felt a bit like I was on a roller coaster of emotions right there with each one of them. This one is definitely a must read for all readers of romantic suspense! 5 Stars! |
