Book Reviews & Thoughts |
Goodreads Synopsis: There’s a reason why I haven’t been home for ten years. Scratch that. There are many reasons why I haven’t been home—family drama, small-town gossip, and my career probably take up the top three spots. But when my career stalls and I get devastating family news, I’m back to the very place I ran away from a decade ago. The last thing I want to do is pick up right where I left off, and as I'm drawn to Noah, my terrifyingly gorgeous high school bully, I know that things have certainly changed. I was supposed to run away and never look back, but I’m stuck dealing with my past and planning for the future. But all I want to do is live in the now. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/55517838-in-the-now Thank you to Jennifer Ann Shore and Book Sirens for providing me with an ebook copy of In The Now for me to review. In the Now is Shore's first novel in the new adult fiction genre. I have to start by saying, Wow, what a powerful story! With the first line, "I checked my phone for the hundredth time in five minutes", I instantly felt the tension and anxiety of the main character. Shore did an extraordinary job of pulling readers into the emotion and mood of the story right from that very first line. Great authenticity was created with the use of phrases and slang specific to the location the story is set in. The characters were all written with strong descriptions of their personalities, traits, and relationships. I felt many of the situations and experiences they went through were very relatable. From high school challenges, relationship lows and highs, career challenges, friendship, family and even death; Shore included it all, truly capturing the roller coaster that life sometimes is. What an outstanding jump into new adult fiction! 5 Stars!
